Quadrophenia Rocked!

Hi I'm back,
Spring break has come and gone. At first it sucked because I went to Lake Havasu Arizona. For starters, the drive there was so boring that I wanted to fall asleep at the wheel. Second, there wasn't much to do there. I stayed at the London Bridge Resort, which was kinda OK, but I was disappointed. The design of the hotel and shops was to make it look like London, but it looked fake. After getting back home, I finally had fun on spring break because I spent time with my best friend whom I haven't seen in a while since we're both usually busy.

Just to let you guys know, I did watch Quadrophenia and I liked it! Even though The Who were only seen on the television screen that Jimmy was watching, it was cool how he was reacting to their performance. It was funny how his dad was reacting to them too. That scene reminded me of myself, the way I react to seeing my other favorite bands on tv and the way my parents react to my music. One of the sadest part was when the mods were beating up Jimmy's rocker friend and he didn't even help him. On the lighter side, I noticed that at certain times, Jimmy's face kinda resembles Pete, a little bit. Has anyone else noticed? Again, Great movie! I would see it again, as soon as I can find a DVD, is there a DVD? Somebody please let me know, Pete?

I better wrap this up soon, cause I have a lot of work to do for school. Lately I've been lucky because I have gotten several second chances for my assignments. First, I had Art History homework that I started on the night before it was due, Of course I didn't finish it and planned to e-mail it to my teacher. The next day, I thanked my lucky stars because class was cancelled! So now I have until this monday. Second, I was finishing up two assignments for my computer graphics class, but I forgot about one more assignment. Next class, I am told that one of the assignments was supposed to be painted, I did mine on the computer. Most people didn't have their assignments done either, so our teacher gives us till next class. To make this long story short, I get to class and, it was cancelled! It's not very often when a person is given several chances, so if you get them, take it cause you may not get another chance.

That reminds me of watching David Bowie with my father in 1974. David was such a trip back then and I was entranced. My father of course was appalled! He asked me if it was a man or a woman. I was so annoyed. 'how can you interupt with such an inane question while this God is performing?' I thought!
Now I watch these rock 'n' roll videos with my daughter. She LOVES it!
She's seen The Who in Rock 'n' Roll Circus and loved them too. They are one of the highlights for sure.

That is so cool! That's another thing I haven't seen yet, the Rock 'n' Roll Circus. I wanna be the cool mom when I become a parent. My parents were squares when they were younger. Actually, they're still squares. They do like The Who, but not as much as I do!

My parents are both about 85 and the coolest thing they ever liked was Johnny Cash. They never missed an episode of the Lawrence Welk Show! AUGH!!! Benny Goodman was cool, Lawrence was a total drag and they couldn't tell the difference. Some people are like that I guess. I still love them.

Johnny Cash is cool. I'm sorry but I never heard of the Lawrence Welk show.

Glad you had fun at the movies!
thanks for your comment, I agree it really is a saner way to interact and relate online. Even when there are scary/bitchy stalkers on here they usually keep to their own blogs or get chased away, it's not like they are 'right there' the way they are in chat rooms. We have a nice group :)

Hi metalchick,
Yes there is a Quadrophenia dvd - very cheap from Amazon.com.

"Rock'n'Roll Circus" is also probably available from there. The story behind "Circus" has always been that the Stones never released it 'cos they were not pleased with their own performance, and the Who just blew them away. Well, the second is true (I saw the Who and the Stones in 1970. Nobody could stand against the Who). But the Stones are great in the film. Also look out for a beautiful Marianne Faithful.

As for "Jimmy" he now plays twice weekly in the Brit soap "Coronation Street". How sad is that? It's a bit like he became the "bell boy" after all....

Hi Metalchick,
I discovered "Quad" went it came out in 1979 and I was 17. My friends and I went out to see it and got the whole Mod thing going after that. Loved it, and still love watching it. Like Rust said, you can get the DVD and it never loses anything after many viewings. I remember the scene where Jimmy's rocker friend was beaten up, too- just a reminder that your gang affiliation removes your individuality and that you're tied to your gang, right?
Anyhow, glad you had a good spring break. Hang in there, the school year is almost over!

Cheers,
AM

Hi Metalchick,
sorry about Havasu, I have not so fond memories of a weekend houseboat outing with 13 male friends who wanted me to do beer bongs or jump overboard... I hear Australia will get the next London Bridge.. how funny that England sells the bridges like that.

If you want to see a real treat, get Pete Townshend Lifehouse Concert at Sadlers Wells on DVD, you will not regret it. It is Pete Townshend like you have never seen him. It is one of my prized possessions and you can find it on Amazon for less than $20.

Hi Metalchick,

Hm, what exactly is a London Bridge doing in Arizona?

I've yet to see Quadrophenia. Honestly speaking I've been a bit suspicious because it by necessity has a different approach than the original album, due to the different medias (music and film). But I have the Tommy/Quadrophenia Live official DVD set, and I watched the 1996 Quad concert which has footage from the film, and it looked really interesting. Got to go and get it...

Yes, I noticed the resemblance as well.

Yep about the parent thing. My dad would sometimes belittle the bands I would watch on tv too.
