The curse of tattooing a boyfriend's and/or girlfriend's name

I would like to thank everyone who wished me a happy birthday, it means so much more than presents. Making the tributes to my favorite musicians has been very fun to do, even if they don't see them. There's more to come.

I would also like to thank everyone who gave me advice about my best friend's boyfriend. It may take a while before she sees the light. They both got each other's names tattooed, which is a sign that the relationship will possibly end. My friend did design the tattoo so it can be easily covered when they break up.

Since I got the subject of tattoos started I'll talk about mine. I only have one tattoo right now which is the flame logo of the band Audioslave. Everyone's opinion of band tattoos differ; I believe that getting band tattoos shows a real devotion to that band and that you're a hardcore fan. My second tattoo will be about The Who. Before I get my design idea inked, I give myself about a year to think about it to see if I still like it. It's a good idea, especially if it's your first few tattoos. You have to be careful of these things because what you like now may or may not be what you like in the future. I'm so glad I didn't get inked while going through my musical phases. I have been a fan of Audioslave since 3/4 ths of the band used to be in Rage Against the Machine. I still have no regrets of that tattoo. I feel that I am ready for my next tattoo. I have been a fan of The Who for almost five years now, so I know for sure that they will stick around with me for life. First, I still have to decide what symbol to use that best represents the band.

In other news, I have made great progress in my graphic design job. My supervisor has told me that I have come a long way since I first started. I have been learning as I go, and I now know that professional graphic design is something I want to pursue for a career.

That's all I have to say for now.

The rise of tattoos and piercings is a phenomenon I've watched unfold over the past 20 years. It's very interesting. It wasn't nearly so common when I was young.
I didn't meet anyone besides my uncle Bob who had a tattoo until I was well at least 27!
My early opinion on tattoos was that marines got tattoos and people who worked the rides at the fair got tattoos.
These days everyone gets tattoos except me. I get freckles!

ps. I never did find the dinasaur!

If I got a tattoo I think it would be to link the freckles like a connect the dots!

I think tattoos are cool, although there are some weird ones out there. Personally, I agree with you that people should not tattoo the names of their significant other on their body. It may be sexy at first, but when the excitement and charm of the relationship die down, then the tattoo sometimes becomes a point of contention. I'd steer clear of it.

I have a tattoo from when I was in college, nearly 17 years ago now. I don't want to say that I regret it, but I feel that the tattoo no longer accurately portrays who I am inside.

Hi Metalchick,
I'm glad things are progressing well at work- it's nice to hear positive reviews from your boss, isn't it?

I'm pretty neutral about tatoos, although I'm not sure getting someone's name is always a good idea. Just ask Johnny Depp, among others. There are a lot of Who fans who have them, and you can get a good representation of them at www.thewho.org if you're interested.

Cheers,
AM

Hello there!

Oh, tattoos...Two of my six tattoos are actually Who tattoos. One is the standard Who logo- refer to the classic Marquee poster. Not origianl at all, but I'm going to transform it as the Tree of Life. The other is the just the Who logo from Keith Moon's Pictures of Lily bass drum. It's missing Keith's head & the cherubs. Once again, not creative. I'm actually going to combine that one with one of my celtic knots into one native american myth of how the earth got the sun complete with Boris the spider.

Since you are an artist, you have the ability to create a unique piece of art. You can make it your own. You'll know when you see it- and then your hand will draw it out.

I'm glad you're taking your time. It is everlasting. Good luck.
