First my sister and I find out at the last minute that our dad was having some friends from his work coming over for a BBQ. I had to cancel my other plans I had. The BBQ wasn't bad after all, I met my dad's friend's daughter, even though she's a bit younger than me, we had a lot in common. Afterward, we hung out a bit talking about what music we like. She likes classic rock and heavy metal, like me!
During the BBQ, when I went to change the CD , I discover that my parent's Who compilation album had a crack on one side of the CD. It was my dad's fault because he usually puts the CD's away wrong. I showed them that CD. My mom was upset, but my dad had no reaction. I was still going to play The Who for everybody, so I ran in the house to grab Live at Leeds. My dad was going to put in a 70's mix CD in, but I was like "No! I wanna put this one in!" He took out that CD and I put in LAL. You all know how Live at Leeds has parts where Pete & Roger are talking, well those parts are usually hard to hear from a stereo that's outside. My dad tried to change the CD cause he was waiting for it to end. I had to tell him "No! It's not done yet!" Then he'd sit back down. The second time he tried to take it out, I told him "But this part is the mini opera!" I couldn't stop him at his third attempt, he said he was getting tired of hearing it and wanted to put in one of his compilation albums in. (Can you tell that my dad rarely buys the actual albums of any band?) I know that everybody feels differently about music, especially my dad, but I wish he would be more open minded. He rarely listens to anything new, he just sticks with oldies and some classic rock. Nothing wrong with that, but nothing beats that feeling you get when you first hear a great new song.
Saturday we're going to the Beach again. My dad can listen to whatever he wants cause if it makes him happy, then that's good. At least I have a portable CD player, so I can listen to whatever I want cause that makes me happy. As long as everyones happy, it's all good!

Good moring Metalchick,
this is what the most older people want. Ever old stuff. I hate this. I like to hear old and new and I buy a lot of music from young band's. If you don't follow new music, you stand still in the future. This is the same with life. I have two children and we talk about all the new music and books and I listen to this all and read a lot books from my daughter and my son.
Do you buy a ticket for an USA show? I hope you can see the band. I saw them last week in Berlin. Great!!!! Next week we go to Ulm. Talked a little bit with Rachel and Mikey. Both are so nice.Wish you a fantastic weekend.

Hi Chick
At least your Dad listens to music!
We all have our favourites & favourites to be.
I drive my family nuts when I play a new CD over & over again - I want to learn it inside out. They don't get that, but I guess I don't blame them.
But at least I listen to music!
Roger-Chick you are looking lovely in your new ID pic... ;)

As I get "long in the tooth" myself I find a lot of comfort in familiar music. There is a lot of "uncomfotable/unwated reality" stuff going on around us and the world isn't the lovefest we all so much like to believe we lived in...(but it was all-in-all a nicer place)
For myself, I have never been into heavy rock or metal - enjoy some euro-techno... always on the lookout for some new sound - not necessarily US born...
Love very much "some" middle estern, indian and african music, but the most favorite of these past few years has been Shakira -every which way - and Canadian Lynn Miles - "fantabulous" lyrics!
Joy to you
Hi! I can understand your frustration of your Dad taking out the Live at Leeds CD. What an awesome CD. (they all are!!) Sometimes when people get stuck in the music they've always listened to. At least he gave it a listen. x Grace
I hate to admit it, but my dad is more hip than most when it comes to music. For instance, he was right about Pet Sounds when I scoffed so many years ago. If only he would give up believing that Jackson Browne is the greatest songwriter of all time...
So you're in Lancaster, CA? Sorry to hear that...
