Two Tragic Losses in Music

Today is the anniversary of two tragic losses of two great musicians. 26 years ago, we lost John Lennon, and two years ago, we lost Dimebag Darrell. He was the guitarist of Pantera and Damageplan.
Both of these tragedies are similar, both were shot four times by crazed fans. John Lennon was killed by Mark Chapman, and Dimebag Darrell was killed by Nathan Gale. I don't know what motive Mark Chapman had to kill John Lennon, but whatever it was he is a fucked up person! No one is really sure what Nathan Gale's motive was, but some say that he was pissed off that Pantera broke up. Whatever his motive was, he was a very fucked up person too! Nathan Gale was shot by a police officer, because he not only shot Dimebag Darrell, but he also shot three others.
The music world may have lost two great musicians, but they both live on through their music.

Hi, what a tragic day in history. I was in NY at the time, and it was crazy. Very sad. I did not realize Dimebag's passing was the same as John.
Imagine.....my favourite song

What a sad day in history. I don't understand why crazy people have to take other's with them. Why can't they just hurt themselves & leave the rest of us in peace?

I would like to make it to Japan some day to see the museum there in John's memory.

Was lovely and painful listening to the general radio waves on Friday.

John Lennon's death was a real blow to millions of us here in the UK. He may not have always been a likeable soul but he was loveable and we loved him and his amazing visionary music.

I'm afraid I don't know about the other Dimebag, Chick, but all the same no great talent should have to go that way.

Yep, Dimebag wasn't , in my opinion, one of the greatest guitarists in metal but Pantera was a great band to bang your head to and he had a great passion for his music.

John Lennon has left an everlasting mark on the music history of our world. Even though the Beatles ended their career as a group before I was really old enough to understand, they were a big influence in my life.

I was never into Pantera, but a loss like that is still useless. I remember getting into an argument about Lennon at school and I was sent to the principal. I told him someone very close to me died the day before and I got off the hook!

Hey Metalchick,

This is a sad day indeed. I watched a documentary a few months ago on the guy who shot John Lennon, and he was rather crazy...I'm not sure he had an actual reason to shoot him, which is odd....just mental, I guess.

I like your 10 things. I totally agree with the A-list celebs - like, who cares? Most of them are immoral anyway...which totally turns me off.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for your comments about John Lennon. I understand if any of you don't know who Dimebag Darrell is. I just thought I'd bring his tragedy to attention, not because he died the same day and same way John did, but because no one deserves to have their life taken away. There are musicians and bands that aren't my favorite, but I'm not going to shoot them because of that, that's stupid!

Anyways, you may just now have noticed that I'm no longer allowing anonymous comments again, and these comments are no longer moderated. It is because I haven't received any anonymous comments, and some of you beta users can now get through with your user names. Also I prefer to get see my new comments here instead of my e-mails.

I remember the day John Lennon died. My son always got a Xmas ornament every year. My mom had been out to buy it. I put it up right after she got home and that was when they said on the TV that John Lennon was shot. So whenever I put up the 1980 ornament, I think of that day. It was a sad time. It felt like one of the family had passed.

I don't know anything about Dimebag. It was pretty stupid on the part of Nathan Gale to kill him on the reason of Pantera breaking up. Did he think they would get back together if he shot him? I just don't get people.

I remember the day Dimebag was gunned down, just horrible, but I never realized it was the anniversary of John Lennon's death too. Now that was horrible, I mean, so senseless. They should never let Mark David Chapman out of prison.

Gunned down because his band broke up? Now that is just crazy. Hard to understand the world sometimes. I wonder what John would think of the mess we're in.

Hi Metalchick,

I can never understand how a fan could get into his head to shoot the person he admires. A person like that must have something seriously wrong in his head...

Happy Holidays, hope you are doing great.

Hi MetalChick! A bit late on commenting on your post. Why do people do such irrational things?

John Lennon was a man of peace & he died in a hail of bullets. I cried all night after I learned of his death. It took me a very long time to accept that he really was gone.

And even though I'm not a Pantera fan, what happened to Dimebag was terrible.

Pure evil. Let's hope nothing like that ever happens again.

Long live John and Dimebag!
